    Rock and Roll

    -Two popularity & world wide scope of Rock music resulted in a powerful impact on society. Rock and Roll influenced daily life, fashion, attitudes, & language in a way few other social developments have equaled.
    -As the original generations of Rock and Roll fans matured, the music became an accepted & deeply interwoven thread in popular culture, Beginning in the early 1950s rock songs & acts began to be used in a few television commercials.

    2nd Great Migration

    -Was the migration of more than 5 million African Americans they traveled to the west & the mid-west.
    -They went to states such as California to get Defense Industry jobs in the Cold War, it took place through out World War 2.
  • G.I. Bill

    -G.I. Bill was created to help veterans of World War 2. Provided many benefits to veterans. Veteran's hospital, provided for vocational rehabilitation, made low-interest mortgages available, & granted stipends covering tuition & living expenses for veterans attending college or trade schools. Nearly 9 million veterans received close to $4 billion from the G.I Bill with the G.I. Bill there are less homeless veterans

    Baby Boom

    -Result of a strong postwar economy in which Americans felt confident they would be able to support a larger # of children.
    -WW2 ends, men come home to their wives after years have passed. So they decide to start family so their child will bare their names
    -Caused economic prosperity - Demand for consumer goods reached all time highs.
    -Caused "housing Boom", GI Bill helping veterans led developers to build cheaper, mass produced housing home ownership increased by 50%
  • Marshall Plan

    -The Marshall Plan was extremely successful, it speeded the economic recovery of Western Europe & created good will towards the U.S. from 1948-1952 European economies grew at an unprecedented rate
  • Air Conditioning

    -Many of the central changes in our society after WW2 wouldn't have been possible if a/c was not keeping homes work places cool.
    -Everyone wanted a/c down at the sun belt, (including theater) in Hollywood Golden Age. Where a/c it self was an attraction so when it was exploding around 1950s cars, homes, & businesses had people migrating down South where it's hot as well.
  • The creation of the Polio Vaccine By: Dr.Jonas Salk

    -On March 26, 1953, American medical researcher Dr.Jonas Salk announces he has a vaccine against Poliomyelitis, the virus that causes the crippling disease of Polio (FDR had it)
    -In 1954, clinical trials using the Salk vaccine began nearly two million American schoolchildren, A nationwide inoculation campaign began, New Pilo cases dropped to under 6,000 in 1957, the first year after the vaccine was widely available.
  • Moon

    -He gave the Historic speech to help start united states on a course to the moon . The reason for the speech was to start an ambitions space exploration program during the case race/ cold war
  • Friendship 7

    John H. Glenn became the third American in space & the 1st to orbit the earth when he successfully completed 3 orbits aboard the space capsule "Friendship 7".
    -Midst of Cold War tensions & amid the very real fear that the Soviet Union was winning the race.
    -Glenn's accomplishment brought a sense of pride & relief to Americans & made him a national hero.
  • Creation of NASA

    -National Acrobatic & Space Administration (NASA)
    -NASA made it possible for the American researchers to collaborate on & disseminate scientific advance an opportunity envied by many of U.S soviet scientists.
