  • Potsdam Conference

    The leaders from Great Britan, the Soviet Union, and United States met to talk about how to rebuild Western Europe after the destruction of WWll.
  • Beginning of the Cold War

    Germany was split into two, one overseen by the Soviet Union the other in three occupations owned by the United States, Great Britan, and France. West Germany used capitaliism and East Germany used Communism, the plan was for the United States to end the spread of communism.
  • Berlin Blockaid

    East Berlin wanted to cut West Berlin off from food and other supplies that other countries had been delivering to them, so they built a blockaid around all of West Berlin. This made it harder for resources to get to West Berlin, but not impossible, they began to make these deliveries by air insead and East Berlin's plans had been ruined.
  • Vietnam War

    North and South Korea were at war and after being attacked the United States stepped in. March 1965 air strikes on Vietnam were authorized. The war ended in 1973 because of the Paris Peace Accord.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Soviet Union built a wall to ensurre all the citizens of East Berlin would stay there and not flee to West Berlin. After it was built people still tried to cross it causing hundreds of deaths. It also separated families and cut off any public transportation to either side of the city.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    This was the climax of the Cold War. The Platt Amendment allowed the United States to be able to interfere with Cuban events, the goal was to over throw Castro. However this event caused everyone to the United State's vulneerability to bombs.
  • Glasnot/Perestroika

    The Soviet economy began falling apart, Boris Yeltsin became the first elected president for the Soviet Union an he became a well liked leader to the public. The goal was to include more people through freedon of expression, the lack of strong direction caused the government to worry about highly increasing crime rates.
  • Fall of the Soviet Union

    The Russian Revolution of 1917 expressed the citizens feelings toward the government and weakened the Union. The civil war spanning from 1918-1922 did even more damage and when Boris Yeltsin was elected he became the citizens prominant leader in taking down the Soviet Union.
