    The Marshall Plan
    This was the US's way of helping out the European countries after WWII. It was our effort to help rebuild what had been destroyed. The plan was presented by U.S. Secretary of State George Marshall at Harvard. This plan gave out 13 billion dollars to help pick up the pieces in Europe.
  • NATO

    NATO
    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was formed by 12 counties including United States, Great Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Iceland, Canada, and Portugal. All of these countries were allies with the US against the Soviet Union. Along the way some countries were added and France dropped out. There are now 26 places that are in NATO.

    This was a Conspericy that 2 people were giving info to the Soviet Union. They were accused of being spies and were providing the Soviet with nuclear weapons. The case didnt hold up because there wasnt any good evidence about it.

    United Nations stepped into the war between North and South Korea with militart and naval involvement. The violence went on for a couple years and and in that time other counrties came into help out. America defended South Korea. No one really won the war, North Korea and South Korea are still divided today and in that war close to 5 million soliders were killed

    The Warsaw Pact was a reaction to the creation of NATO. It was an Eastern- European alliance with the Soviets to defend against NATO.

    The first articifical earth satellite that was launched by the soviet union. marked the starting of the space age. Since the Soviet launched it, it scared the US because it made them think what else they could launch into space and what harm it could do to the US.

    Military invasion in Cuba to over throw Castro durring the presidency of John F. Kennedy. Presidnet Eisenhower approved it.
  • Rise of the Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall stood for two things, it divided communism and democracy, and also was the boarder of West Berlin and East Germany. The wall was built almost over night and when the wall went up, it cut off communication and access to family and/or entertainment between the two sides. Needless to say, people were NOT happy,

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Soviet Union put missles on Cuba, and were targeting the US. This happend durring President John Kennedy presidency, and in such a situation he didnt think it was a good idea to keep it a secret, he publically announced what was going on, and kept people informed. President John Kennedy responded with placing our military around cuba to show them that we would use force if need be. This ended when the Soviet agreed to remove the missles if we agreed to not invade cuba.

    President Nixon arrived in China and met alot of important people. He sat down with some of the people, and tried to figure out with goals to accomplish together. This was all done in secrecy at first and was a shock to the US that he was in China at all! He basically went there to get a good relationship with China.

    The Us the was playing the Soviets and the Soviets were leading by 5 at the half and within 10 mins. they pulled further ahead. When there were 6 mins left on the clock the US made a HUGE comback and was only down by 1 point. One player was fouled and made both shots. The Soviets made a wild shot with 3 seconds and hit the shot, The Soviets won and the US lost.

    The Vietnam War was a war in Vietnam and started to try and prevent communism. The US sided with South Vietnam (non communists) and faught against North Vietnam (communists). Nixon was president and started to pull back troops in 1969. Multiple attacks happend back and forth. The US even bombed North Vietnam to make them think if they really wanted to continue this war. It was like the US showing our muscles and being intimidating to North Vietnam.

    The US Olymic team won the gold. They beat the Soviets and were four time winners in the Winter Games. The was a positive thing to get us through a rough time durring the Iran Hostage crisis.
  • German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall

    German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall
    The German Democratic republic (east germany) joined the FEdral republic Germnay (west Germany) Berlin reunited as one city. This was the turning point where the fight was over, now it is refered to as Germn Unity.
