Marshall Plan
This was put in place to rebuild all the countries that were affecteed by WWII. It made Germany pays billions to other countries so they could rebuild. The most money way paid to Russia because they had to most to rebuild because they were hit the worst in many different places. -
NATO
The North Atlantic treaty where America, 10 western European countries, and Canada. This was a treaty that if any of those countries are attacked all other countries with help them out. -
Soviet Nuclear
Shortly after the end of World WarII Russia started testing and building nuclear weapons. This scared the American public and government because we were enemies with Russia so when these bombs got built it could lead to a nuclear war. These nuclear bombs were tested in Kazakhstan located in the mountains of Russia Archipelago of Novaya Zemlya. -
China Becomes Communist
In 1949 China became a comunist society by their leader Mao. At this time comunism started to spread to a lot of diferent country's including some big ones like Russia and North Korea. China changed their government to comunisn because it seemed to be working for Russia at the time and they wanted to have more power. -
The Korean War
North Korea invaded South Korea. They dominated South Korea at every turn not lossing a battle and taking over all of South Korea untill NATO got involved. America was by far the biggest help for NATO and South Korea in this war. They ended up defeating North Korea, and killed or pushed them all back to their home land. -
Warsaw Pact
It was created by Russia to counter act NATO. This allience involves Soviet Union and all their satallite countries. It was basically created by Russia and they got the other countries invloved because they are Russias little puppet countries and do whatever Russia wants. They needed this so that if NATO tried to overthrow Russias comunism they would need more help militarily from other countries. -
Fidel Castro
He was born on August 13, 1926. In 1959 hbecame the ruler of Cuba and was ruler for almost 50 years. He was in total controll of everyone in Cuba. He was an evil dictator and America wanted him overthrown so he didn't destroy Cuba or worse try to destroy other countrys. -
Vietnam War
America went to war with Vietnam in the hope to prevent the spread of communism. Many American soliders died due to Vietnams gorila warfar tactic, so the American public at the time didn't support this war at all. At the time it was a discrase to be an American in the war, but now they are very much honered but the American public. -
Bay of Pigs
America wanted to over throw Castro who was Cuba's leader, and so did many of the Cuban civilians. So America trained and armed some of the civilians in hope that they would over throw Castro. In the end America was badly embarassed because the Cuban Civilians got crushed by Cuba. -
The Rise of the Berlin Wall
In 1949 after WWII war the United States, Great Britian, Soviet Union, and Italy divided up Germany and the city of Berlin. In the dead of night Russia put up a wall that divided Russias part of Berlin that would make sure no one came in and that no one left. It was shocking and a surprise to the world, and the reason this was done was so that comunsim was apart from democracy. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
Russis put nuclear missles onto Cuba. America had some on turkey which could attack Russia and Russia had some on Cuba. If in these 13 days one person let off one off the nuclear bombs it could have ended the world as we know it, but luckily there was a deal made and Russia pulled their missles off of Cuba. This definatly was a great victory for America. -
Nixon Visits China
He went to China looking for peace between China and America. The biggest acomplishment was when Nixon talked with Chairman Mao Zedong. Most of the time he just went around giving speaches about peace. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall divided Berlin. The Berlin wall was up for 28 years and was torn down very quickly. It was technically a wall that divided comunism from democracy. On one side Russia owned it and on the other America owned it. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union which was once one of the strongest countrys in the world collapsed and comunism proved to be a failure which America already knew would happen. This was very good for the rest of the world because now it would be nearly impossible for comunism to spread.
