Winston Churchill delivers his famous speech where he says "An iron curtain has fallen over western Europe." Meaning that Russia has tensions with the rest of the world. -

The marshall plan was an American plan to rebuild euroupean countries affected by World War 2, especially France and Germany. The US sent food, Money, supplies to rebuild houses, and more, to make sure Euroupe was back to the way it was before. -

A proxy war between America and Russia unfolds, as North Korea wants to split away from the rest of Korea to form a single communist nation. Backed by Soviet Russia, North Korea manages to create independance but fails to follow through its plan to invade South Korea. -
KGB established
The KGB, or Comitee of State Security, was formed to gather intelligence and keep government stability. They acted as secret police, secret agents, and much more. -

Vietnam War
With the backing of Soviet Russia, Northern Vietnam split up to become a communist nation.Their army, the NVA, were brutal, skilled fighters that fought to the last man. Americans believed that by involving themselves in the war, they would stop a communist takeover of South Vietnam. After 19 years and millions of Amerian casualties, America finally pulled out of the war. -
Russians win space race
The Russians manage to get a spacecraft into orbit before the Americans, thus winning the space race. Spuntik 1 was a satelite that went into orbit to study atmospheric conditions of planet earth. America does get the first man on the moon though, during the Apollo project. -
McCarthyism
Mcccarthyism is the accusing of any one person of being a communist without proper regard for evidence. This was in place the most during the second red scare, where anyone who was accused of being a communist was put on a trial and a list known as the blacklist, which restricted them from getting jobs and benefits. It was estimated that 5 out of every 8 Americans had to go through a loyalty test in their workspace. -
Berlin Wall built
The Berlin wall was built to seperate eastern and western germany. Originally built by the eastern germans lying to their citizens about how the west was still facist, the wall eventually came to make sure that the eastern germans were not defecting. Many Eastern Germans starved to death behind the wall, and were liberated at the end of the cold war. -
Cuban Missile crisis
A U-2 Spy plane spotted nuclear missiles in a base in cuba, just miles away from Florida. Knowing that without a doubt those missiles could destroy America in a matter of minutes, Kennedy demanded for the missiles to be disassembled at once. Trains with large missiles were seen to be traveling back to Russia. The crisis offically ended on the 28th of october. -
Regan gives "Evil Empire" speech
President Regan refers to Russia as an "Evil empire" in his famous speech. In his speech, he says that America must be aggresive twoards Russia, and manage to match their international strength. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall/End of the Cold War
On november 9, 1989, the GDR announced that citizens were free to travel across the border as they pleased. This resulted in a massive celebration as well as destruction of the berlin wall. People started breaking the wall with pick axes, shovels, rocks, even their own bare hands. This marked the end of the cold war war as russia lost control of Berlin. -
Collapse of the KGB
The KGB collapses in 1991 with the soviet union, as it is no longer necessary to use brutal tactics against their own citizens.
