  • Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter
    Confederate General Beauregard fired at Fort Sumter. The Union surrendered the fort at 2:30 pm and Anderson and his men where forced to evacuate the next day. This started the Civil war
  • 1st Battle of Bull Run

    1st Battle of Bull Run
    This was the fist actual battle in the civil war. The battle started when about 35,000 Union sodiers marched out of Washington. The attacked a small confederate river called Bull Run that was gaurded by 20,000 Confederate sodiers. This was important because it showed the strenghts of both sides and that this was not going to be a quick fight.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    The South lead by Albert Sidney Johnston, with 40,000 soldiers, attacked the North lead by Johnston with a suprise attack and scared them off. The south kept attacking, but failed to overtake the North on the first day. The next day though the North, now lead by Beauregard, outnumbered the South 40,000 to 30,000. The South retreated and the North won. This still today is known as the bloodiest battle in american history with 23,000 casualties. This was the First win for the North
  • Fall of New Orleans

    Fall of New Orleans
    The Union, lead by General-in-Chief Winfield Scott, went out to block out all of the South's ports and capturing their bigest port in New Orleans would help them. The Confederacy, lead by General Mansfield Lovell, Attepted to defend their main port. The Union finaly captured the port and this was important because it helped them with the "Aniconda Plan".
  • Battle of Antiedam

    Battle of Antiedam
    Union general McClean attepted to take another port while Confederate genral Lee treid to defend it. They ended up tieing, bit Lincoln still got the "victory" he needed.
  • Battleof Fredricksburg

    Battleof Fredricksburg
    Union general Burnside attepted to capture Fredricks burg before Confederate general Lee drove him off. The Union failed to capture Fredricksburg. This was important because it gave the South confidence in their defence.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    Battle of Chancellorsville
    Union genreral Hooker was going to flank Confederate general Lee, but Lee was able to get the plans and fight back with his 30,000 men against a much larger army. He managed to defend off the Union, but Stonewall Jackson was shot in battle.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Battle of Vicksburg
    Confederate general John C. Pemberton tried to stop Union genral Grant from fully capturing the mississippi river, but in the end Gant was able to capture it. This finaly cut off all the Southern ports.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle of Gettysburg
    Confederate general Lee tried to invade the North, but Union genral George G. was able to defend them off. This was important because it showed that the North had a offence and a defence.
  • Wilderness Campaign

    Wilderness Campaign
    Union general Grant attepmted to take Virginia, but Lee was able to defend it. This started Grants entire offencive and the North gaining land.
  • Farragut at Mobile Bay

    Farragut at Mobile Bay
    The Union general Farragot and Confederate general Buchanan went to war with the ironclads and the Union eventualy won. It was the first battle of the ironcalds.
  • Sherman's march to the sea

    Sherman's march to the sea
    Union genreral Sherman attacked the South and Attlanta. He finaly was able to achieve his goal.
  • Fall of Richmond/Surrender at Appomattox

    Fall of Richmond/Surrender at Appomattox
    Grant marched into Virginia and forced general Lee to surrender. Lee finaly gave in. This was the end of the Civil War.
