Abe Lincoln delivered a speech at Copper Union in New York City. This speech was very persuasive and played a huge role in him being elected president later in the year. -
The pony express was a series of men on horseback that delivered letters 1800 miles from Missouri to the west in just 10 days. This helped transportation and word of what going on in the east spread -

When the democrats were electing who to nominate for the presidential election, they had a disagreement on who should be it because of the view on slave and free states. This tension lead to another convention and played a huge role in the outcome of the 1860 election -
Because of the tension the democratic party had split into 2, Democrats and Southern Democrats. Each party picked a representative but it would be counter intuitive because they take votes away from each other allowing Lincoln to become president. This was held in Baltimore, Maryland -

2 days after the election many southern news outlets and people who disliked Lincoln started pushing for succession. For example, Charleston Mercury Newspaper Wrote, "Yesterday, November the 7th, will long be a memorable day in Charleston. The tea has been thrown overboard—the revolution of 1860 has been initiated." -

February first is when Texas becomes the 7th state to succeed from the union. It was a vote for 166-7 -
