civil war timeline

  • battle of bull run/ manssas

the cause of the battle was that the confederates had bombarded fort sumner, which started the civil war and this followed because of the mobilization of troops. the union and confederates met, and the union won, but the south was determined, so they pushed back the union after coming down from a hill and the union lost the initial battle. the effect of this battle was that people realized this war was not going to end quickly, and would take a long time to finish and many people will die.
  • battle of antiem

the cause of the battle of antietam was that the confederates were winning a lot of battles and they were feeling good, so they decided to push into the north to try to end the are quickly. there were three phases, and thousands on both sides died because of this. the effect of this battle was that the south could not advance into the north anymore, and had to push back into the south because they would be slaughtered if they didn't and would probably loose more men than they needed to loose.
  • battle of gettysburg

the effect of the battle of Gettysburg is that the south and the north were pushing the edge and were not doing so well together, and the south was trying to hold their ground. over 50,000 people died on this battle and is the deadliest in the American history, only because of how many people died on both sides. the effect of this was that the north could then go and start their march to the sea, which I will talk about next, and this is what led up to the end of the civil war.
