    Abraham Lincoln is elected the 16th president of the United States over a deeply divided Democratic Party, becoming the first Republican to win the presidency. The significance is that it marked a truing point in the revolution.
  • Fort Sumter

     Fort Sumter
    It was the bombardment and surrender of Fort Sumter, near Charleston, South Carolina, that started the American Civil War. The sigifnicance is that Fort Sumter was destroyed and it led up the the Civil War.
  • Blockade

    It took place between 1861 and 1865, during the American Civil War, when the Union Navy maintained effort on the design to prevent the passage of trade goods, supplies, and arms to and from the Confederacy. The significance is that when Abraham put up a blockade but it didn't work very well because it was to big of a space to blockade.

    It was fought on July 21, 1861, in Prince William County, Virginia, near the city of Manassas. The significance is that it was first major land battle of the American Civil War.

    Virginia was met by the Union's Monitor, the first Union ironclad. This battle lasted all day, but neither ship could best the other. The significance is that both ships withdrew and the Union blockade was not broken.

    The commander in the area, was forced to fall back, giving up Kentucky and much of West and Middle Tennessee. The significance is that the confederates had to keep falling back and didn't win.
