    The Republican Candidate. With the Democratic Party split in half, Lincoln won the election. After he is elected States started to secede. This leads to the beginning of the Civil War.

  • TX Secedes from Union

    Once Lincoln had won, states started to secede and join the Confederacy. On this day Texas left the Union. On March 2nd 1861 Texas officially joins becomes a part of The Confederacy. It was the 7th State to join.
  • Houston Kicked out of office

    After Texas joins The Confedracy Sam Houston is told to Pledge Allegaince to The Confederacy. He refuses to do so. He is then kicked out of office. He thought that the North would have a quick vicotry.
  • Battle at Fort Sumter

    The first battle of the War. When South Carolina seceded, the union men still in there took Fort Sumter. 3 Weeks later The Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter. Meanwhile a senator in South Carolina, negotiated with the men. They found agree ment and the South took the Fort.

    Second Battle of Galveston in the Civil War. Confederates attacked Union Soldiers occupying Galveston, TX. The Union troops had tried to blockade the harbor. The Confederates succesfully expelled the Union Troops.

    The 3rd battle of the Civil War. The turning point of the war. It had the most deaths out of any battle. The Confederate forces treid to invade the North, and were defeated by the Union's army.
  • Battle of Sabine Pass

    Battle of Sabine Pass
    Union forces treid to attack Fort Griffin to start occupying Texas. Fort Griffin only 44 men, but thanks to practice forced out the men. They also captured the boat Clifton, and 200 men on it. Union Forces stopped most fighting here.

    The Red River Campaign was a group of battles taken place mainly in Louisiana. It was an effort by the Union to acommplish four things. To destroy The Confederate Army commanded by Taylor, capture Shreveport, Louisiana, steal cotton bales, and organize pro union state governments. Not a single one of these were accomplished. The Red River Campaign ended May, 22.

    The end of the Civil War. Robert E. Lee ended it by surrendering the last major army of The Confederacy. As of April, 9 1865, the war was over. Although there was still one more battle.

    Juneteenth was the day slavery ended. Thanks to the Emancipation Proclamation slaves were now freed. It took 2 and a half years before all slaves were freed, because the surrender of the Confederate Troops. It also declared that African Americans can fight in the army.

    The final battle in the Civil War. In the banks of the Rio Grande River there was a peace treaty. But still Confederates attacked Union to protect their last ports. It was considered a Confederate Victory.

    The Reconstruction act divided the South into 5 Districts. In the Districts Army Commanders were the head in command. In 1868 six states were allowed to back in to the Union (Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida). Then in 1870 after ratifying the Fourteenth Amendment as well as the Fifteenth Amendments into there Constitution, Virginia, Mississippi, Texas, and Georgia were allowed back into the Union.
