  • 1st Bull Run

    Location: Virginia
    Significance- First major battle in the Civil War!
  • Shiloh

    Generals:
    Union- Ulysses S. Grant
    Confederates- Albert Sidney Johnston
    Winners- Union
    Location: Hardin County, Virginia
    Significance- This battle made both realize that it would be a long and bloody war. It was a severe loss for the confederacy.
  • 2nd Bull Run

    Generals:
    Union- John Pope
    Confederate- Robert E. Lee
    Winner- Confederate
    Location: Northern Virginia
    Significance- It was an important victory for the South, and a decisive battle in the Northern Virginia Campaign for the Confederates.
  • Antietam

    Generals:
    Union- Robert E. Lee
    Confederate- George Mccllen
    Winner- Union
    Location: Maryland
    Significance- This battle was equally matched at some points.
  • Fredericksburg

    Generals:
    Union- Ambrose E. Burnside
    Confederate- Robert E. Lee
    Winner- Confederate
    Location: Spotslyvania County, Virginia
    Significance- They were in war because they wanted to abolish slavery, and in the South they didn't want to abolish slavery. Because it would ruin their business.
  • Chancellorsville

    Generals:
    Union- George G. Meade
    Confederate- Robert E. Lee & Stone Wall Jackson
    Winner- Confederate
    Location: Virginia
    Significance- The Union army counter-attacked, and the day ened with both sides disorganized. Also Stone Wall Jackson got shot by his own men (accidentally), and died 7 days later.
  • Vicksburg

    Union- Ulysses S. Grant
    Confederate- John C. Pemberton
    Winner- Unoin
    Location: Warren County, Mississippi
    Significance- When the Union won the North had more land and another advantage against the Confederacy.(Most brilliant campaign in War!)
  • Gettysburg

    Union- George G. Meade
    Confederate- Robert E. Lee
    Winner- Union
    Location: Adams County, Pennsylvania
    Significance- It gave the North a MAJOR VICTORY!!
  • Sherman's March

    Union- William T. Sherman
    Winner- Union
    Location: Through Georgia and to Georgia's Coast
    Significance- The Union marched down to the sea and burned farms, houses, etc..
  • Appomattox

    Generals:
    Union- Ulysses S. Grant
    Confederate- Robert E. Lee
    Winner- Union
    Location: Viginia
    Significance- Lee surrendered to Grant on April 9, 1865, and 27,805 Confederate soldiers were pardoned.
