  • Battle Of Gettysburg

    This was the bloodiest battle of the war. This battle occurred in June of 1860. The Union won this battle against the Confederate troops and it was a major turning point in the war because it stopped the Confederate from going farther into the North. In the battle, 28,000 Confederate soldiers lost their life and 23,000 Union soldiers lost their life.

  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act.

    This occurred after the MIssouri Compromise which states that no slave states could exist above Missouri. Congress passed a law that popular sovereignty would determine if the two states came into the country as a slave or a free state. Violence broke out and many people flocked to the states to try to sway the minds of votes and this caused "Bleeding Kansas". Eventually, both the states were admitted into the Union as free states.

  • Election of 1860

    Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860. The South did not want this to happen because of the things he had in mind. As soon as he was elected a fe southern states seceded from the North and soon other states joined them and thee became known as the Confederate States Of America. Slavery became abolished in the North and the South was not happy about that at all.Georgia people felt threatened as so was the rights of states to deciding issues on slavery.

  • KKK

    The KKK were and still are a group of whites who were not happy about slavery being abolished.The KKK were trying maintain white control and scare the freedmen. The KKK would commit violent acts against freedmen or would beat tem for various things. The leader of the KKK was General Nathan Bedford Forrest in Tennessee.

  • Congress Reconstruction

    In this deal congress required that 50% of each state agree to be loyal to the Union. Congress wanted to make the Confederate states pay because they believed they started the war and it was their fault. During this plan black codes would also be put into place which are basically restrictions on blacks.

    The battle of Antietam occurred in late August of 1862 and was an Union win.
