  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    The Battle of Lexington and Concord started the American Revolutionary War. Tension had been building up between the Colonies and the British because of the colones trying to break free. Hundreds of British troops marched from Boston to Concord in order to seize an arms cache. This was a very important event because this kicked off the American Revolutionary War and that is a big deal.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga occurred in the second year of the American Revolution. This had two battles, and a victory for the Continental Army, and a turning point in the Revolutionary War. This was an important event because it had two crucial battles in it.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown was an American win. British General Lord Charles Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington and its French allies and this was more than just a win. This marked the last major battle of the American Revolution and the start of a new nation's Independence. This is a very important event because this battle ended the war.
  • Northwest Ordinance

    This helped structure settlements in the northwest territory. The Northwest ordinance created a policy for the new states to the nation. This right here made the south want to expand their slavery economy into the new states. A lot of people wanted it to be free soil. Northwest Ordinance added 5 new states. This event is important because it helps form new rules and keep everything in order for the new land.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase admitted 15 states to the U.S. Thomas Jefferson bought the land for new opportunities for new people. He bought the land from the French for 15 million dollars. This is a big impact because it helped more people have a life in the new land.
  • Missouri Compromise

    In 1819, there were free and equal states. When Missouri got admitted, it messed up the balance. Missouri got admitted as a slave state and main got admitted as a free state. They drew a line at 36´30 also know as the Mason Dixie Line. This event is important because a war could've broken out against abolitionist and pro-slavery people.

    The Monroe Doctrine was issued by President James Monroe. The Monroe restored a lot of problems going on with the new world and England. Helped with the war and set a basis for all the future presidency. This was a big impact because this helped the present and the future a lot.

    Nullification Crisis

    The Nullification Crisis was a political crisis that involved a confrontation between the state of South Carolina and the federal government. It ensued after South Carolina declared that the federal Tariffs of 1828 and 1832 were unconstitutional and therefore null and void within the sovereign boundaries of the state. This is big because South Carolina was going over its line and the federal government had to put them in place or else every state might pull this on them.
  • Texas Annexation

    The Texas Annexation was because Mexico refused to believe that Texas was Independent. This was keeping Texas from being admitted as a new state because of border issues. There was a slavery issue with making Texas a pro-slavery or anti-slavery state. This is an important event because this shows how fights broke out between Mexico and America because of greediness.
  • Oregon Treaty

    This was an agreement to set land boundaries between the United States and Canada at the 49th parallel. This treaty settled the dispute between the United States and Great Britain over the area in Oregon located between the Columbia River and the 49th parallel. This was a big event because if they didn't settle this treaty, a war could've possibly broke out.
  • Compromise of 1850

    This introduced the principle of popular sovereignty and this is when voters vote on the issue of slavery in a state. California was admitted when the compromise was announced, fugitive slave law which meant that the north had to return runaway slaves back to the owners in the south, and slavery was going to be decided by popular sovereignty in the Mexican cession. This was important because it admitted a new state and slaves were getting caught so they put a law to go against it.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    The Kansas Nebraska Act overturned the Missouri Compromise by allowing popular sovereignty north of 36'30. This led to conflict between the anti and pro-slavery groups. This became a violent situation known as bleeding Kansas. A new political party grew from this known as the Republican party. This is a big event because this new party is a big part of today's presidential election and it would be different if we didn't have it.

    Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas was like an immediate effect of the Kansas Nebraska Act because of how it clashed with the Missouri Compromise. This was a violent time period between the North and the South because of their different beliefs. The North didn't want the new states to be pro-slavery and the South did so they fought over it. After this, a new party arose from it. This is an important event because of the rise of a new party in the system.
  • John Browns Raid

    Johns Browns Raid was a raid in Virginia that wanted to arm slaves and start a rebellion. This scared slave owners because they thought their slaves were going to rebel against them too. They were paranoid and determined to protect slavery. I believe this is a very important event because people all around probably thought this was going to happen a lot so they are going to think about freeing them.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter was the first battle to start off the war. Shots were fired by the confederate on the union held garrison. The garrison commander surrendered and evacuated the next day. The war was going to depend on geography and resources. Also leadership and political leadership. This was an important event because this was the start of something major; The Civil War.
  • Battle of Bull Run

    The Battle of Bull Run was in Bull Run Creek outside Manassas, Virginia. The Confederates won this battle against the union. The general for the Confederates was General Thomas J. Jackson and the general for the Union was General Irvin McDowell. This battle was important because This battle alerted Lincoln to change up the flow of what he was doing to win more battles.
  • Battle of Antietam

    The Battle of Antietam was a different battle than the others. This battle was a "Tactical Draw" which means no one won. This was also the single bloodiest day of the war with 23,000 soldiers dead or wounded. This was the first Southern invasion into The North. This was important because this was a difficult battle to be in for the north and south because of a lot of their soldiers.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The Emancipation Proclamation is a document and no it did not free the slaves. It freed the slaves in states with rebellion. A lot of the slaves ran to the free states for freedom. It also allowed African Americans to fight on the Unions side. This was important because this led to significant events like the 13th amendment and Slaves getting more rights.

    Congressional Reconstruction

    Congressional Reconstruction was to potentially punish the south for the war. What they did was they put up a Military Reconstruction Act split the Confederacy into five military districts controlled by the US Army to put the reconstruction amendments in place. The south was refusing to give slaves their freedom so this is what that is for. This is important because blacks started to get citizen rights in the south.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    The Battle of Vicksburg was a Union victory. This happened in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The generals were Ulysses S. Grant for the Union and John Pemberton for the Confederates. This was a turning point in the war because after the confederates surrendered in Vicksburg, they split the confederates in half at the Mississippi River. This is an important event because it gave the Union an advantage over the Confederates.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg was a Union victory. This was located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The generals were George G. Meade for the Union and Robert E. Lee for the Confederacy. This battle was the second and last attempt the south invaded the north and the reason they are losing is that they don't know the territory. This is important because the South stopped invading the north so they don't have to worry about them coming up anymore.
  • Gettysburg Address

    The Gettysburg Address was hosted by President Lincoln in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to honor the fallen soldiers. He dedicates a cemetery for them and talks about how the Civil War is a struggle to fulfill the Declaration of Independence and preserve a nation. This is important because it shows how he cares about what's happening to the nation and how he wants to make it better and that makes him look good in politics. People will want to vote for him more since he has done this.
  • Sherman's March To The Sea

    Shermans March To The Sea was a total war strategy By William Tecumseh. He lead his troops on a march to the sea from the Tennesse- Georgia border. His main objective was to capture the port in Savannah, Georgia.
  • Presidential Reconstruction

    Presidential Reconstruction was for the president to form new plans. Abraham Lincoln made new plans like the 10% plan but was assassinated so Andrew Johnson continued it for him. But Congress impeached Andrew and he was acquitted in Senate by one vote. His power was weakened a lot. This is a big event because Lincoln was assassinated and a new president came into play and lost most of his power.
  • 13th Amendment

    The 13th Amendment ended Slavery EVERYWHERE. The south had to really take in the amendment before creating a government. They wanted to limit the rights of the black as much as possible so it could feel the same. This is important because the south is disobeying the amendment and this might cause another war in the future or a rebellion.
  • 14th Amendment

    The 14th Amendment granted birthright citizenship meaning if you were born in the US, you were automatically a citizen. This overturned the Dred Scott decision because now the African Americans are citizens so they can take a white man to court. This is an important event because African Americans are going to start becoming more advanced and on whites level in the system.
  • 15th Amendment

    The 15th Amendment allowed all men to vote and ensured the right to vote and by the desire of the Republican Party to establish its political power in the South. All men can vote means that it doesn't go against race anymore. Only people that cant vote are women. This is an important event because now the northern presidents might get more votes because of how they used to treat the blacks in the past.
  • Plessy v Ferguson

    Plessy v Ferguson was about a black man who took a white man to court because he brought the slave to a free place so he was free but the Supreme Court says otherwise. They put in place a rule that says slaves are still property even if brought into a free state. The south used this as an advantage to migrate west and still keep their slaves and live in a different environment. This is a big event because this might turn some of the western states into slave states.
