    The South saw Lincol's election as a threat because without slaves, their agricultural society would fail. The First state to secede was South Carolina.
  • Confederacy Forms

    Confederacy Forms
    The South's "new country" pulled from the Union. They called themselves the "Confederate States of America" or the Confederacy.
  • Fort Sumter

    Fort Sumter
    The Confederate soldiers attacked Fort Sumter to gain supplies. Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard opened fire on the Union Major Robert Anderson, who later surrendered and was evacuated from the fort. Luckily there were no deaths.

    Presiden Lincoln proclaimed this blockade, in order to monitor 3,500 miles of the Atlantic Andy Gulf coast (Confederate) that included 12 major ports, and the two notable ones were New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama. Blockade runners/ships used to evade Union Naval blockades, could only carry a light amount of supplies.

Chattanooga was an important railway center, and once it was taken, it became the openings for later campaigns in the Deep South, such as the Capture of Atlanta and Sherman's March to the Sea. Union troops led by Gen. Grant and Gen. George Thomas and Confederate troops led by Gen. Bragg and Lieut. Gen. William Hardee

    It was an early battle of the Civil War. It stands as one of the greatest Confederate victories. The major generals were Confederate General Robert E. Lee and Union Major General Ambrose Burnside.

    It was a Confederate victory that prevented an attempted flanking movement by Major General Joseph Hooker against General Robert E. Lee. It as one of the bloodiest battles with around 30,000 casualties.

    Martial Law as used in Missouri by General John Frémont. Under the law, not civilian, but military courts had the power to deliver justice. Officials such as Lincoln thought that the laws were imperative to protect the citizens and keep order.

    Both of the forces were struggling over control of the railroad center of Chattanooga. It was the second costliest battle and a Union Victory. Confederate army under Braxton Bragg and a Union army under General William Rosecrans

    This was a speech given by Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetary. It's purpose was to say that the sacrifices of the men who died during he Battle of Gettysburg were made to keep the fundamentals of human equality and self-government as stated in the Declaration of Independence.

    Last big battle of Grant's Overland Campaign. Three Union corps came o a frontal attack against the Confederacy. By noon around 7,000 troops were missing, wounded, or killed.

    Union Gen. William Sherman led around 60,000 troops on a 285 mile march from Atlanta, Georgia, to Savannah, Georgia. The goal of this march was to scare the citizens to give up the Confedrate cause.

    Bear the Appomattox Court House, Virginia, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army Union General aUlysses S. Grant. It lasted a couple of hours which brought the Civil War to an end.

    A revengeful John W. Booth murdered President Abraham Lincoln in the top box of Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C. Soldiers went on a 12 day manhunt for Booth, eventually finding and shooting him in the neck.
