    Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad
    Ben and Henry escaped Maryland where they were working, then changed their mind and went back to Maryland to be a slave again. Harriet got help from the underground railroad and traveled 90 miles north to Pennsylvania and became free.
  • The Kansas Nebraska Act

    The Kansas Nebraska Act
    In May 1854 the Kansas Nebraska act started. This act revoked Missouri and divided it in half so, at that time their was two enclave (territories) because of this it authorized a lot of power. This started a lot of roughness which they called the "Bleeding Kansas", during this the proslavery and antislavery went into the two territories so, they could even the playing field and to push the vote one way then the other way.

    John Brown and the group of people followed him left their hide out house. They got to the town early October 17th, Brown and his men imprisoned noteworthy people (the important people that are well known in the town). They sized them up and got them all ready and made them join the federal army and collected weapons.

    This election demonstrated that the United States was not United we were more divided. During this time the Union "party" was new; this was the first election that the union had someone from their party run for president but at the same time it was also the last. The results of the election pushed everyone to war because they were afraid of what the new president was going to do. After this election you can see that the United states were divided at this time and that's what lead to war.

    South Carolina was the first start to divide away from the united states because they were afraid of what the president was going to have them free all their slaves. After Carolina left Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas, they all left as well.

    The Confedered states did a blitz on the Union. This happened at South Carolina's Charleston Harbor, it lasted 33-hours. The Union gave up Fort Sumter, know it was owned by the Confederate states. This was were everything changed for the United States, this is when the Civil war started.

    The Civil War started because of the differences of the anti-slavery and proslavery states, also they felt as more states came in the nation would be more sides and that side would have all the nations government power. Because of this it showed that we were not united and people started to divide more and it led to a war.

    This was the first major land battle in the Civil War, was at Prince William County, Virginia. The Confederacy won and gave them a big confidence buster. This was hard for the North to realize they lost, they realized that this war would not be easy and they would have to work hard because the south wanted to win just as bad as they wanted (north) to win.

    He was elected the president of the government by the Confederacy, by this the votes conformed Jefferson stays in for 6 terms.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Lincoln addressed that all the slaves within the Confederacy states will be free. Lincoln told them this three years into the Civil War.

    The battle was fought in Pennsylvania this was the largest battle in the war as well the biggest battle the North has ever fought. 85,000 men in the Union's Army commanded by General George Gordon Meade, 75,000 men for the Confederacy.
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    At this time Lincoln and the Union army really needed this win if they wanted to have a chance to win the Civil War. General Williams Tecumseh Sherman's went and vandalized the Souths railroads and industries to make sure that Lincoln would win. During this time Sherman's 100,000 troops marched to the South, and destroyed economic resources.

    The 13th amendment was passed by congress, annihilate (destroyed) slavery in the united states. No slave or owner of slave would receive any punishment for what they have done.

    The Union won, Lee surrendered to Grant in the court house. This is where the war ended in Virginia.

    Abraham Lincoln was the 6th president and was loved by a ton of people because everything he did for are nation. John Wilkes killed Lincoln when he was at Ford's Theater in Washington, he did this because he was afraid that Lincoln was going to overthrow them and destroy the South.

    Grants every person that was born in the untied states citizenship for the united states even if you were a slave that was freed because you were still born in the united states.
  • 15th amendment

    15th amendment
    The 15th amendment was passed by congress, gave African Americans the right to vote for the president.
