The first actual "Freedom Ride" that journeyed into the deep south where Jim Crow ruled. -
Freedom Rides Enter The Deep South
They start to encounter heavy resistance from the Ku Klux Klan and other groups. the police generally take about an extra 15-20 minutes to arrive than they should because of their ties to the KKK. -
Freedom Riders are brutally beaten outside of Anniston, Alabama.
Mobs and police work together in trying to stop the Freedom Riders, and they end up injuring some of the Riders to an extreme level. -
Freedom Ride Ends
The Riders are forced to finish their journey by plane under protection of the Kennedy Administration. Nashville Student movement picks it back up.
