Whigs
The whigs were created to protest against the King of England's acts. The apposing party was called the Tories. They were for the kings acts and supported him. -
The Federalists
The federaists were created by Hamilton and other poltical leaders. They believed in a strong center government. Business men were most of the people who supported the Federalists. -
Democratic/Republiban
This group was created to go against the Federalists. This party was supported by small businesses and farmers. The supporters wanted the government to small and to leave them alone. -
Republicans
The Republicans also diveded from the Democrats in 1861. They kept their beliefs about a small government. Most of the people who followed them stayed butsome didn't. -
Democrats
Democrats separated from the republicans and started believing in the Federalist beliefs. They also believed a large government. They started during the Civil War when south and North divided. -
Third parties
There are many different third parties. Some of them are progressive, populists, and Dixiecrat. They all believe in different things apposed to the two main parties. An example is that the populats believe in equal rights for everybody.
