    The Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was a document that King John was forced to sign.If he did not sign it greatly reduced the power he had as king.The pirpose of the Magna Carta was to make king gorn by the old english laws.The Magna Carta was a collection of 37 english laws.It was orginally called Articles of the Barons.
  • Petition of Right

    The petition contains restrictions on non-paliamentary taxes, forced billing of soldiers, imprisonate with out a cause, and resticts the use of martial laws. The petition is seen as one of englands most famous constitutional documents of equal value to the Magna Carta.
  • English Bill of Rights

    The puritain men of paliment deliverd the petition of right to king Charles. King Charles gave a throne to his brother. the english people drove king James II from the thron in the Glorious Revolution.
  • Stamp Act

    The new tax was imposed by all american colonist and required them to pay a tax on every printed papper they used, The money collected by the stamp act was to be used to help pay the cost for defending and protecting the american frontier.
  • Townshend Duties

    Series of laws named for Charles townshend. these laws placed taxes on glass, paint,lead,papper ,tea. The colonial reaction was the same as the stamp act.Britain eventually took away all taxes except for tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a brutal street fight.Several colonist were killed because of this.It began when a couple of citizens attacked a british sentinal.A town meeting was called demanding the removal of the british and the trial of captain Preston.
  • Tea Act

    The final spark to the revolutionary movement in Boston.The townshend movement was still in place at the time.The direct sell of tea would also undercut the bussiness of local merchants.The tea act was not intended to raise revenue in the american colonies.
  • 1st contienental congress

    Met in carpenters hall in Philadelphia. united in a determination to show a combined authority to Great Britain.All colonies except Georgia sent delates.The colonies and the body must do everything possible to communicate the same to the population of america.The declaration and resolvesnestablished the course of the congress.They had to resist to Great Britain and keep there communications open.
  • 2nd continental congress

    the second continental congress convended in philadelphia. they agreed that a contiental army would be crreated.They were dealing with a full fledge governing body.Majority were not seeking independence from Britain. This july congress approved the Olive Branch Petition.Cries for independence grew stronger as the seasons changed.

    Known as the most important piece of writting of the american revolution.Paynes ability to write in plain language made his ideas acessible to colonist, rich, and poor.his words in the begging of common sense were as true today as they were in 1776.
