    Mexican President brings in a new government
    Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna brought in a new form of government at this time. This new government reduced much of the power that a local goverment could hold and brought them under a more direct control of the Mexican government. This was done for strictly financial reasons and was yet another contributing factor in the rebellion.

    Albino Pérez is appointed govener of New Mexico
    This event is when Albino Pérez is appointed govener of New mexico by Santa Ana. Perez was a distinguished army officer from central Mexico. He quickly became unpopular because of his style and out of state heritage.

    This worldwide depression began worldwide in 1836 and caused a lack of many nessities throughout the world. With this lack of money many peole were stressed and did not have money to throw around. This was a contributing factor in the Chimayo rebellion.

    Rumors arrive in New Mexico
    Rummors began to arrive in New Mexico at this time that taxes would be instated. New mexicans had new payed taxes before and were antious to see the outcome of the new event. This was yet another cause for the rebellion.

    This is when Perez and a small force of men agthered to meet the rebels. They were met by a large force of armed rebels numbered from 1500 to 2000 men. They were defeated and dispursed in the battle.

    As the rebellion came to an end Perez and his men were ambused and caputured. Thet were caputured when trying to flee the city at night. His captures were a group of Santo Domingo Indians, who beheaded him and took his head to town for all to see.

    At this time the devout citizens wanted to counter revolt. This was stirred up by Francisco Antonio de Madariaga, a priest. They appointed Manuel Armijo to lead their forces. They suppred future rebellions and commanded New Mexico for a couple years afterwards.
