    This is significant because (Kaplan & Owings (2015) pointed out “hornbooks were the principal means of educating children” (p.104). Without the use of a hornbook, the children would not have the knowledge of reading and keeping their religious beliefs and culture alive. It allowed the children to learn how to read with a series of questions and answers giving the fundamentals of religious beliefs (p. 104).
  • The Coleman Report

    The Coleman Report
    This is significant because based on the results, The Coleman Report. (1966) determined that schools might not be society's great equalizer. By integrating schools and taking away the income levels, race and gender students can have a better chance of success. Student need to take charge of their life and education. Coleman (2015) has argued “it is important for the individual student to have a sense of control their own destiny no matter characteristics, race or gender” (p.157).
  • On-Line Learning

    On-Line Learning
    This is significant because (Kaplan & Owings (2015) have noticed with cuts to education spending, on-line instruction is one option for schools districts to reduce costs. By not having particular courses available in some schools area districts, On-line learning allows students to take coursework that is otherwise unavailable at their school (p.169-170). This has become another tool for students who want to accelerate or for students who otherwise struggle to work at their own pace.
  • The Disability Act (IDEA)

    The Disability Act (IDEA)
    This is significant because through the Individual with Disability Education Act (IDEA) by no longer allowing public schools discriminate against a quality of education for the handicapped student ages 3-21 (Kaplan & Owings, 2015. p.159). Children with (IDEA) now have an equal opportunity for quality education and a chance at a successful future.
  • No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

    No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
    This is significant because, based on the No Child Left Behind (NCLB 2002) has noticed that schools now need to be accountable for remedying the unequal achievement among different student populations, especially low income, minority students, and students with disabilities (p.164). Students having only highly qualified teachers-teaching their core classes, allow all students to receive an equal opportunity for a successful education and in their future life.
