    In the Archaic time period the climate was changing and some areas were drier and warmer. Oak-hickory trees covered Georgia.
  • Period: 1000 BCE to 900 BCE

    Woodland

    People witnessed the growth of many trends that began in the late Archaic period. The Woodland period is dividend into 3 parts; Early, Middle, and Late sub periods.

    Mississippian

    This was the growth of some of the difficult societies that ever existed in North America.

    Hernando de Soto

    He was a Spanish explorer. He led the fist Europeans down into the land of the modern day U.S.A.
  • Georgia Founded

    James Oglethorpe founded Georgia. Spanish conquistadors never set up a permanent colony.
  • Charter of 1732

    The first twenty years of Georgia are referred to as Trustee Georgia. King George signed a charter making the colony.
  • Salzburgers Arrive

    A group of protestant colonist people who speak German. They founded the town of Ebenezer.
  • Highland Scots Arrive

    A group of Scottish Highlanders sailed from Inverness to Georgia. They were the best soldiers in the world.

    He was Georgia's first governor. He served in the British navy when he was 15 yrs old.

    Henry Ellis

    He was the second royal governor in Georgia. People named him "Georgia's second founder."

    James Wright

    He was the last royal governor. He served while the American Revolution was happening.
  • Austin Dabney

    He was a slave who became a private in the military during the Revolutionary war. He was the only African American who was given land during the time.
  • Elijah Clarke/Kettle Cr.

    His name was on a petition to support the King's government. After that he joined the Rebels.

    A lot of Georgians thunk twice about joining the American Revolution. They soon decided they need protection from the British.
  • Constitutional Convention

    Delegates from 5 different states called for a Constitutional Convention. The event was in Philadelphia.
  • Georgia Ratifies Constitution

    Georgia Ratifies Constitution

    The delegates party voted without objection to ratify the U.S. Constitution. They ratified it because more and more people kept moving to georgia.
