    The Assassination Of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    Archduke Franz Ferdinand,Royal Price of Hungary and Bohemia was assasinated (shot) on June,28,1914 by a man named Gavrilo Princip,who was part of a secret military society formed by the members of the serbian army, generally known as Blackhand.The murder took place in Sarajevo,Bosnia and Herzegovina.The imperial powers of Turkey and Austria-Hungary made the Serbians furious and forced them to commit this ruthless act.

    Outset of The Great War
    The Great War also known as the First World War,was a global war centered in Europe that began on July 28th1914.The war involved The Triple Entente,and The Central Powers.The First World War mainly took place in Europe,Northeastern France,Belgium,Northeastern Italy,Poland,Romania, and Serbia. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the primary cause that sparked The First World War.
  • The Battle of Ypres

    The Battle of Ypres
    The battle of Ypres began in April 22 to May 15, 1915 in western Belgium. This was the first ever poison gas attack used in a battle. The German Army at Ypres used poisonous chlorine gas (often-called mustard gas) on Canadian troops, which resulted in 6000 deaths. This all started because the Allies wanted to weaken the German Army with a head start by the surprise attack strategy. However, the Germans attacked first by using the mustard gas which started the second battle of Ypres.

    Later,in the First World War,Canada had to deal with many Casualties.Not Enough people were volunteering to battle on the trenches to replace the injured soldiers who were fighting in the front lines.PM Robert Borden had no other choice but to establish a conscription.French Canadians opposed it because they had no loyalty for Britain.However,English Canadians supported it because they had friendly ties with Britain.The Conscription Crisis then lead to the 1917 election, which the unionists won.

    During the First World War, women had to replace men who served in the war in the work force. Thousands of women worked in munitions factories, and thousands more worked for government or on frames. When women started working outside of their homes, this proved to them that they were capable in doing many of the same jobs as men. This led women to fight for the right to vote. In May 24, 1918, Canadian women finally got the right to vote but not Native and Asian men and women.

    The Universal War which involved, The triple Entente and the Central Powers, has ended on November 11th 1918 with the Treaty Of Versailles. The Great War resulted in the Dissolution of the Ottoman,Russian,Austro-Hungarian,and German Empires. The end of the war had one of the greatest outcomes in Canadian History. It resulted in women finally attaining their freedom and legal rights!!
  • Paris Peace Conference

    Paris Peace Conference
    In Paris 1919, the Paris Peace Conference took place. This was a meeting at the end of WW1 to set peace terms between the Triple Entente and the Central Powers. This meeting involved diplomats from more than 32 countries and nationalities. The Allied leaders set the Treaty of Versailles which officially ending the feud between Allies and the Central Powers. This treaty was designed to stop Germany from waging war again.
  • Winnipeg General Strike

    Winnipeg General Strike
    This strike began in May 15, 1919 in Winnipeg. The strike erupted because most workers were concerned about wages and workings conditions. However not all the strikers were workers but Veterans too. After returning home from the war, they found that factories were shutting down, increasing bankruptcies and immigrants taking over the veterans former jobs, which angered them. The Winnipeg strike caused a series of strikes across Canada to support the Protesters.The strike ended on June 26th 1919.

    The treaty of Versailles was a ratified agreement signed by Germany and the Allied powers on June 28 1919,at the palace of Versailles located in France.The German government was given a specific amount of time to accept the terms of the treaty which were to make considerable reductions of territories ,and to pay for all the damage caused throughout the course of the war.

    Dissolution of the Ottoman Empire
    The Ottoman empire was the largest and longest-lasting emprie in the world. During WW1, the Ottoman Empire supported the Central Powers until 1918. However, this did not bring peace to the region. The main reason why the Ottoman Empire failed was because the countries that were a part of the Empire were seeking independence form the Turkish Influences. Also, the Ottmoman Empire ruled parts of Europe and they wanted independece and later, they did got their independence.

    Person's Case
    Many men and women still didin't think that women should have poltitical equality. However, Emily Murphy became the first judge in the British Empire in 1916. However, lawyers had challenged her right to preside by saying that under the British North American Act, women are still were not considered persons. By then Emily Murphy and four other women (all known as the famous five) was determined to change that law. Finally, in 1929, women were considered persons in Canada.

    The Great Depression was an economic slump in North America,Europe & other industrial areas.The stock market crashed in 1929 and lasted for 10 years(1939).Stock markets crashed thousands of investors who borrowed money to buy and sell shares,lost jobs,homes,and families.Churches had to open soup kitchens because of the amount of poverty there was at that time.
