    The California Gold Rush began when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. The news of the gold rush brought 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad.

  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    This treaty brought and official end to the Mexican-American War and this limited the settlement between the United States and the Mexican Republic.

  • Free soil party

    This party was mainly focused of opposing the expansion of slavery into the western territories of the unites States.

  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    This act created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska. this also allowed each territory to decide the issue of slavery based on popular sovereignty.
