    A charter of liberty and political rights obtained from king john of england by his rebellious barons at Runnymede in 1215.

    This was a petition to obtain possession of property. This property may be real or personal, or from the crown.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    This was an act passed in 1689 which limited the power of the monarch. This document established parliament as the most powerful branch of the english government.
  • Albany plan of union

    Albany plan of union
    This was an early attempt to form a union of the colonies. This one union was formed by one government.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A riot from the people towards the british troops in boston. Which caused many people to be killed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A violent demonstration in 1773 by american colonists dressed as indians that raided three british ships in boston harbor, and dumped hundreds of chests of tea into the harbor. This was organized as a protest for taxes on tea.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    This was a convention of delegates from twelve of the thirteen north american colonies the met on december 5 1774 at carpenters hall in philidelphia. The congress met, to consider options including an economic boycott of british trade, and petitioned King George III for redress of those grievances.
  • Second Continental Congress

    This was a convention of delegates from the thirteen colonies that met on may 10, 1775. The second congress managed the colonial war effort, moving towards adopting dependence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    A document declaring the US to be independent of the british crown. This was signed Juky 4 1776.

    This was the original constitution of the united states. This was replaced by the constitution in 1789.
  • Shays Rebellion

    Shays Rebellion
    This was an armed uprising that took place in central and western Massachusetts from 1786 to 1787. This event was named after Daniel Shay, a leader of the rebellions.
  • Virginia Plan

    Virginia Plan
    This was a plan showing Madison's idea of what a legislature should be like. He wanted there to be two houses in the legislature. One house consisting of officials elected by the citizens, and one house consisting of older house leaders elected by the legislature.

    A plan unsuccessfully proposed at the constitutional convention providing for a single legislative house with equal representation for each state. This was opposed by James Maddison and Edmund Rudolph.

    A convention that took place in 1787 to address problems in governing the united states. The result of this convention was the united states constitution.
