    Ida tarbell
    Ida was born in western Pennsylvania in 1857. Tarbell was the daughter of an independent oil producer. she was deeply angered when John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil began swallowing up independent oil companies. Later on Ida's father's company went bankrupt.
  • Florence Kelley

    Florence Kelley
    Florence Kelley worked tirelessly for this cause. She helped persuade the Illinois legislature in 1893 to prohibit child labor She also worked to limit the number of hours women could work.
  • International Ladies' Garment Workers Union

    International Ladies' Garment Workers Union
    Established in 1900 in New York City, It sought to unionize workers---mainly Jewish and Italian immigrant women--- employed in sewing shops. In 1909, workers at three different New York factories walked off their jobs.
  • Woman's Christian Temperence Union and Anti-Saloon League

    Woman's Christian Temperence Union and Anti-Saloon League
    The WCTU led the crusade against alcohol. By 1902 Anti Saloon League had branches in 39 states with 200 paid staff members. Thousands of volunteer speakers, many of them Protestant ministers, spread the antisaloon message in the nation's churches.

    Founded in Chicago in 1905. The IWW opposed capitalism. Referring to the Continental Congress that had declared U.S. independence, IWW leader William Big Bill Haywood made claims for the working class.
