    1. Isabel and Ruth attend funeral for Mrs. Mary Finch: -Was a kind owner -Tought Girls to read and free upon her death -Ms. Finches nephew, Mr. Robert Finch, ignores wishes from aunt -Isabel argues w/ Mr. Finch but no success
    2. Mr. Finch sells Isabel and Ruth in Newport, RI -Anne (Madam) and Elihu Locton: Pro- British from NYC
    3. May 27-29, 1776 (Ch. 4) -Travels by boat to NYC from RI

    1. Isabel is at the house -Isabel meets a slave named Becky and she gives Isabel good advice. Isabel is showen around the house by Becky and Becky tells her where not to go.
    2. Isabel wants to see Ruth
    3. Madam Lockton is using Ruth as her personal slave 2.
  • Ch 5-6

    1. Arrives at NYC -Isabel takes the blame for Ruth and gets slapped on the face by Madam Lockton
    2. Isabel is sent to get water and she goes with a slave boy (Curzon) that shows her where the water station is.
    3. Curzon runs to the water station with Isabel -Curzon tells Isabel if she wants to spy on the Lockton because they are Loyalists. -If Isabel accepts and gives Curzon good secrets she will be reward her freedom. Isabel rejects him and goes to the house.

    Ruth was crying in the corner and Isabel didnt know why
    Mr. Lockton was talking politics with his friends

    Isabel late at night went to go see Curzon and was going to tell him everything she herd what the Locktons were saying
    Isabel was scared because she knew all this was a crime (slaves where not allowed to be out at night or they will be arrested

    Bellingham and his men went to the Locktons to search for clues what Mr. Lockton is doing for the British
    Mr. Lockton is arrested

    Madam is beaten by Lockton

    Ruth and Isabel attend hanging of Thomas Hickey, planned assassinator of G. Washington
    Isabel meets with Curzon

    Ruth has small seizure; Isabel desperate to Escape NYC with Ruth

    Patriots knock down statue of King George 3 in NYC
    Meanwhile Isabel tricked by Madam and eats drugged treats (falls asleep)
    Continental Congress declares independence

    Ruth is sold while Isabel is drugged and asleep
    Becky knew what happened
    Ruth was sent to Nevis in West Indies
    Isabel threatens and confronts Madam
    Madam hits I. with a painting
    I. runs away to Colonel Regan

    Isabel is in jail and was beaten, she was hit on the head; lost some teeth
    Tried in court- wont be killed but will be punished

    Isabel goes back to the Locktons
    Madam doesnt acknowledge her
    Isabel has to go to Becky for instructions
    Realizes wont be given freedom; has to take it
    Curzon tries to meet with I. ; tries to apologize and asks her to keep spying
    I. says she never wants to see/ talk to him again

    Isabel goes to waterpump
    Slaves talk about how British will free US slaves if they fight for Britain

    Curzon announces he is a patriot

    Battle of Brooklyn: British beat patriots
    Isabel debates which side will be most helpful to getting Ruth back

    British invade all of NYC
    Isabel plans to run away to join the Brits.

    She tries to join the British

    Lady Seymour asks Isabel to work for her
    Madam doesnt want Isabel to leave
    Isabel goes and works with Seymour
    wakes up in a fire

    A big fire is in Lady Seymours house
    Seymour gets hit and she is knocked out
    Isabel saves her and drags her outside

    Isabel looses Ruths doll
    Lady Seymour is feeling better and she gives her thanks to Isabel for saving her

    The Locktons had a lot of troops stay with them
    Isabel had to work realy hard
    The British captured some of the American soldiers and put them in jail (including Curzon)

    Madam through a big dinner with important people from the British army
  • ch 35

    Madam is invited to a house thats next to a prison
    Isabel goes to that prison with food for Curzon
    Isabel is so happy to see Curzon
    Curzon was shot in the leg and seen things a man should never see

    Lady Seymour gets a fever
    Lady Seymour tells Isabel to get her books
    The man from the book store tells Isabel to keep feeding the prisoners and to tell them that help is on the way

    Curzon is getting sicker
    The cell mates are taking Curzons plankets and food
    If Curzon dies Isabel is never coming back

    Madam is ordering Isabel around the house for Christmas
    Isabel is supposed to have Christmas off but she continus to order her around
    Madam tells her to stop hanging around the prison because she is disgressing the family
