Beginning
Adeline Yen Mah was born in Tianjin,China. Her father gave her his birthday, 30 November as in China at the time it was not important to remember step-children's birthdays -
death of mother
Her mother died when she was 2 weeks old. She was deemed bad luck and was hated by most of her family members. Her Aunt Baba and her grandfather were the only ones who were nice to her. -
Remarriage
When Adeline was a year old her father remarried a half chinese and french lady named Jeanne Virginie Prosperi. -
Moving house
Adeline lived in Tianjin until her granmother's funeral which her family moved to Shanghai as her father was wanted by the Japanese. In Shanghai she attended Sheng Xin primary school. -
PLT
The huang family gave Adeline's family a box of seven ducklings. Adeline received the tiniest ducking and named it Precious Little Treasure or PLT for short. Months later PLT was mauled by the family dog, Jackie and died. -
Big Sister's wedding
Adeline's big sister was married off to a man 14 years her senior. This frightened Adeline as she felt that she would going to be married off just like her big sister. -
Class president
Adeline's friend Wu Chun Mei nominated her for class president much to her chargin. She eventually won the position and her classmates threw a suprise party in her house in which she was punished heavily by her Niang. -
Boarding School in Tianjin
Niang and father took Adeline to Tianjin to attend a boarding school. One by one, her classmates left due to the communists and she was the only one left in school. -
Hong Kong
Adeline's Aunt Reine picked her up from her boarding school and travelled withe her to Hong Kong where she was allowed home in a long time.
