    Compromise of 1850
    Henry Clay was determined to find a solution to the problems surrounding what came to be known as the Compromise of 1850. The southerners were concerned about California being admitted into the United States because it was threatening the balance of the slave and free states. The map of the Missouri Compromise had bigger territories but had less borders. The map of the Compromise of 1850 had smaller territories but more borders.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Uncle Tom's Cabin written by Harriet Beecher Stowe in the point of view of a slave. It revealed the cruel life and turned most people against slavery.
  • The Kanas-Nebraska Act

    The Kanas-Nebraska Act
    Two terriotories were added in the United States, which were Kansas and Nebraska. In order to come things even Kansas was a free state, and Nebraska was a slave state. This abolished the Missiouri Compromise.

    The Missiouri Compromise was declared to be un-constitutional. African Americans were not able to become citizens. This went against Lincoln's beliefs and increased the population of slaves.

    John Brown assist slaves to escape from the South, Slaves raided the arsenal for weapons. Eventually Brown was captured and was hung.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    The candidates in this election were Abraham Lincoln, John Bell, Stephen Douglas, and John Breckinriddge. Lincoln and Douglas had faced each other before in another election. Bell and Douglas thought the states should be allow to make the decision to if there should be slavery or not in that states. Breckinridge was all for slavery and Lincoln was againsr. Lincoln won this election because he wanted to abolish slavery.
