Fugitive Slave Act
The fugitive slave act was a terrible act in which runaway slaves was gettuing captured. Suspected slave could not ask for a jury trial or testify on his or her own behalf. 20,000 blacks moved back to their neighboring state. -
Kansas -Nebraska Act
The Kansas Nebraska act was passed by Congress. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. This was called popular sovereignty. This act created a fight that triggered the war; Bleeding Kansas. -
Dred Scott vs. Sandford
Dred Scott was a slave in a free slave. He went to court because he was considered property in a free state. This cause the Civil War because slaves was not treated as a human being. -
Seccession of States form the Union
Many states in the South secceded from the Union. They became the Confederacy. The US became divided completely and tension had reach the max point. -
Three- Fifth Compromise
The three- fifth compromise was added to the Constitution to determine representation in the House of Representatives; slaves equaled 3/5 of a person. This shows sectionalism over slavery and the concern of which side has power in the government.
