    Colonial Reaction: Colonists start protesting "taxation without representation" and organize a new boycott for the taxed goods.
  • Boston Massacre

    British Action: British troops are taunted by an angry mob so they fire into the crowd and kill five colonists.
    Colonial Reaction: The colonists call it a massacre and use it as propaganda against the British.
  • Tea Act

    British Action: Britain shut down colonial tea merchants to create a monopoly on tea.
    Colonial Reaction: The colonists dump lots of tea into the ocean in Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Act

    British Action: The King George III tightens control of Massachusetts by closing Boston Harbor and making the colonists take in troops into their houses.
    Colonial Reaction: The colonists leaders for the First Continental Congress and make a declaration of colonial rights.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    British Action: Troops are ordered to march to Concord, Massachusetts and take colonial weapons.
    Colonial Reaction: The Minutemen intercept the British troops and engage in battle.
