Causes of the American Revolution

  • the Sugar act

    this is a tax that the British put on the colonies. This taw was on molasses. this increased penalties for smuggling, denying a jury to accused smugglers.
  • the Passage of the Stamp act

    the Stamp act was a bill intended to raise money from the colonies. this act required the colonists to pay a tax on almost all printed items. For example newspaper, books, land deeds, etc. This caused riots and the formation of the Sons of Liberty
  • the Quartering act

    This act said that the American colonist needed to provide a home, a bed, and food for any British Troops that were stationed in America after the French and Indian war
  • Passage of the Townshend Acts

    This act relived new import duties on everyday items such as glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was where a group of colonists threw snowballs and rocks at British soldiers guarding the Customs House. Soldiers fired into the crowd killing 5 colonists.

    The Tea act was an tax passed by the British and it said that the American colonists need to pay a tax on all tea coming from Britain.
  • the Boston tea party

    the Boston tea party was where American colonists pretended to be British soldiers. They got on a ship with tea that was going to America and dumped it over board to show that they don't need or want the tea.
  • The Boston Port Act

    This was an act British Parliament passed to close the port of Boston. They demanded the city´s residents for the money they lost from the Boston Tea Party.

    this act forced colonist to house British troops. it also allowed British officials to be tried in Britain for crimes committed in the colonies.
  • the Quebec act

    this act said that Canada could extend their boarders which would go into a lot of the land that was part of some colonies.
