Causes of the American Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was caused by Great Britain wanting more territory to have more materials to trade or use. Great Britain allied with the Native Americans during battle causing the French to lose allies. In Quebec the French lost to Great Britain. They eventually signed the Treaty of Paris.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The British Parliament decided to tax the American Colonists for all paper documents in the American colonies. The reason for this was because the British had gone through the French and Indian War and were in debt from all the damage that had happen during that time. The colonists would protest and have signs or say, "No Taxation without representation." Eventually they stopped being taxed so hard on basic things.
  • The Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act
    The English Parliament taxed on goods they would import to American like glass, paint and tea which the American Colonists didn't like because they felt like the English were abusing the power they had by taxing them. Eventually they stopped most of the taxing on the goods but only one item was still being taxed which was the tea.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    There were a group of British soldiers who were trying to block protesters from a sentry. Eventually things got bloody when some protesters started to attack the soldiers causing them to get angry and shoot some men. All the men that were shot were killed.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Massachusetts colonists dressed up as mohawked Indians and had gone on three ships. While on the ships the colonists poured chests of tea out into the Boston Harbor. The reason for this was because the colonists were protesting the British for taxing the tea.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was made so that they could bail out of East Indie Company. It made colonists upset and that is when the colonists went on the ships and threw the tea over onto the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were made up by the British Parliament which were laws given to the American Colonists after they had poured chests of tea into the harbor. They were tired of all the things the colonists had done like protesting so they gave them sets of laws.
  • 1st and 2nd Continental Congress

    1st and 2nd Continental Congress
    Almost all of the delegates from all 13 colonies had come together and met up in Philadelphia. They met up to have a conference about the acts Parliament has been doing and trying to make sure it doesn't get worse and to make it better.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The battle was against the American Colonies and the British. The British wanted to take weapons from the American colonies in Massachusetts because they had military supplies stored there. They eventually won the battle since the British couldn't get to the supplies.
  • Publishing of Common Sense

    Publishing of Common Sense
    A writer named Thomas Paine published a pamphlet that was called "Common Sense". He talked about his opinions about America and agreed with them too.
