  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 prohibited settlers from settling past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists were upset, because the law prohibited them from settling in the Ohio River Valley where there was fertile soil for farming, and the Native Americans weren't using it, and many colonists already bought land west of the Appalachians and now weren't alound to move.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Actvordered local governments of the American colonies to provide the British soldiers with any needed accommodations. It also required colonists to provide food for any British soldiers in the area. The colonists reacted to the quartering act through protests, threatening to kill the king, and killing some of the soldiers. Others include refusing to house the soldiers, and refusal to feed and give clothing and bedding.
  • Sugar Act

    This act forced everyone in America to pay a 3 cent tax on sugar, and it also increased taxes on coffee, indigo, and wine. Most Colonists were angry that the British Government took action without permission. They didn't like that they were being controlled by the British.
  • Currency Act

    The Currency Act restricted the release of paper money by the colonies of New England. Colonists didn't think it was fair to abolish their currencies and impose the Pound as the
    only acceptable form of money. They protested against it.
  • Stamp Act

    This act requires that all newspapers, pamphlets, and other public or legal documents have a stamp, or British seal on them. The colonists reacted to the stamp act by boycotting it,but sometimes they would comprimise by giving the buyer a stamp without paying the tax
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Congress adopted the Declaration of Rights and Grievances, which declared that freeborn English men could not be taxed without their permission, and the colinists, since they were not represented by Pairlament, any tax that was inforced on them without their permission was unconstitutional. Colonists set up the stamp act congress in reaction to the Stamp Act
  • Townshed Acts

    They were a series of acts that were passed by Parliament of Great Britain. The purpose was to raise revenue in the colonies as well as punish the province of New York for failing to follow the Quartering Act. The colonists reacted to the Townshend Act by boycotting goods, refusing to provide living quarters for British troops, and they agreed not to buy or import British goods.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a street fight that was between a "patriot" mob, throwing snowballs, stones, and sticks, andd a squad of British soldiers. Colonists were furious. They were so mad about the incident, that they sent the soldiers responsible for killing of innocent people to trial.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was a bill designed to save the East Indian Company from bankruptcy by lowering the tea tax it paid to the British government. The colonists responded to the tea act by dumping the tea into the harbor, which was known as the Boston Tea Party
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was when Massachusetts colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into the water.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Britain's General Gage sent out regiments of British soldiers quartered in Boston. Their destinations were LEXINGTON, where they would capture Colonial leaders Sam Adams and John Hancock, then CONCORD, where they would seize gunpowder.
  • Declaratory Acts

    It was a declaration by the British Parliament that accompanied the repeal of the Stamp Act. It stated that the British Parliament’s taxing authority was the same in America as in Great Britain.The was not a great deal of reaction, at first to the Declaratory Act, because there was too much celebration going on over the fact that the Stamp Act had just been repealed.
