The Sugar Act
Was made to end the smuggling trade of sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch. -
The Quartering Act
The Quartering act required the colonies to provide housing and supplies for the British soldiers that were fighting in the French and Indian war. -
Sons of Liberty
A mob led by the Sons of Liberty tore down the office and damaged the house of the stamp collector. Their most famous leader was Samuel Adams. -
The Townshend Acts
A series of measures that the British Parliament passed in 1767 that taxed goods that were imported to the American colonies. -
Battle of Golden Hill
The Battle of Golden Hill was a fight between the British soldiers and the Sons of Liberty, this took place in New York on January 19th, 1770. -
Boston Massacre
A group of colonists threw snowballs and rocks at the British soldiers, this resulted in the soldiers firing into the crowd which killed five colonists. -
Committees of Correspondence
The committees provided leadership and promoted cooperation organized by Samuel Adams. It helped build colonial unity as several of the colonies created these. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was where some colonists dressed as Native Americans and boarded three British ships. After boarding the ships they threw boxes off the boats after refusing the tea taxes the British placed on the colonies. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts also known as the Coercive Acts were passed in the spring of 1774, they were a series of laws that closed the Boston Harbor down in an act of retaliation for their tea being thrown off the harbor. -
First Continental Congress
Proxies from every colony except Georgia in Philadelphia for the First Continental Congress. They did this to organize colonial resistance to the Intolerable Acts. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
A war erupted at Lexington and Concord. This battle were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. Lexington and Concord was considered a major military victory.
