  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763

    An act, endorsed by King George III, that banned any English settlment west of the Appalachian Mountains. It forced all English settlments west of those mountains to move back east. This act was settled in an attempt to sooth anger with the Native Americans.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act

    An act, passed by Parliament, that was meant to pay for the money spent durring the French and Indian War. It was also meant to pay for the money spent on the colonies and new territories. It increased the responsibilities on imported sugar, textiles, coffee, wines, and indigo dye.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The first direct tax to the American colonists, the Stamp Act, taxed all printed materials. This involved newspapers, pamphlets, bills, legal documents, licenses, almanacs, dice, and playing cards. These objects were very commonly used in the colonies. These taxes were passed by legislatures that were not local.

    The Quartering act was an act that forced anyone in the colonies to give some sort of building, either houses or empty buildings, to royal troops. This also forced the owners of these buildings to feed the royal troops. This affected a lot of people because most of these people could barely pay to feed their family.
  • Boston Massacre

    A mob had harassed British soldiers in Downtown Boston. These soldiers then fired their muskets point blank into the crowd. Three colonists were instantly killed, leaving two mortally wounded and injuring six.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was an event consisting of around 116 men threw tea into the Boston Harbor. This was in response to being taxed for tea without representation. Around 92,000 pounds of tea was dumbed, all in one night. The colonists that joined in this act dressed as Native Americans, in hopes the British won't suspect it was them.

    The post of Boston was closed, stopping all important shipments to Boston. This act was passed in attempt to recover the price of dumped tea during the Boston Tea Party. The capital of Massachusetts was changed to Salem, and they made Marblehead the official port of entry.

    The Quebec Act was an act that granted civil government and religious freedom to Catholics that lived in Quebec. This angered the colonists because Quebec was in Canada. This made the colonists feel that The British Parliament cared more for French Canadians than them.
  • Massachusetts Regulating Act

    Massachusetts Regulating Act

    This act made all officers of the law to designation by the royal governor. It banned all town meetings that didn't have approval of the royal governor. This angered alot of people because they should have the right to do and say whatever they want.
  • Impartial Administration of Justice Act

    Impartial Administration of Justice Act

    This act allowed the royal governor of a certain colony to move a trial to another colony, no matter how far. They even had the permission to move a trial to ENgland. They passed this act because they thought that the local colonists would judge a case unfairly.
