Causes of The American Revolution

  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris, often called the Peace of Paris, or the Treaty of 1763, was signed on 10 February 1763, by the kingdoms of Great Britan, France and Spain, with Portugal in agreement. It ended the French and Indian War/Seven Years War.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The British placed a tax on sugar, wine, and other important things. The British did this because they wanted more money. the British wanted this money to help provide more security for the colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    An act for the better securing the dependency of his majesty's dominions in America upon the crown and parliament of Great Britain.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    A series of acts that were from June 15 through July 2 of 1767. These laws placed new taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Colonial reaction to these taxes was the same as to the Sugar Act and Stamp Act.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The British gave a monopoly on tea sales to the East India Company. American colonists could buy no tea unless it came from that company because the East Indian Company wasn't doing so well, and the British wanted to give it some more business. The Tea Act lowered the price on this East India tea so much that it was way below tea from other suppliers.
  • Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)

    Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)
    Series of laws sponsored by British Prime Minister Lord North and enacted in 1774 in response to the Boston Tea Party. It included the Quartering Act, Impartial Administration of Justice Act, Massachusetts Bay Regulating Act, Boston Port Act, and the Quebec Act. These act were the harshest against the colonist, passed by the parliament. The colonist were angered because they didn't want troops in their homes and it cost the colony and the colonist a ton of money. It was through 1774-1775.

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. The battles marked the outbreak of open armed conflict between the Kingdom of Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in the mainland of British North America.
