  • The French and Indian War (1754-1763)

    The French and Indian War (1754-1763)
    (Called the 7 Years War to Britian.)
    The British and French and their native allies fought against eachother for control over the Ohio River Valley. It started early July 1754 and ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on Feb. 3, 1763. this war took place in Fort Necessity mainly in the Ohio Valley, Pennsylvania present day Pittsburg, upstate New York, Quebec, and Montreal. Bristish victory lead to raised taxes on the American colonies because of deep debt. It angered them.

    Signing of the Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris on Feb. 10, 1763, was signed by Great Britain, France, and Spain and signed in Paris. This ended the French and Indian War. Great Britain received from France all of Canada and all of Louisiana east of the Mississippi besides New Orleans.

    Establishment of "Writs of assistance" and Sugar Act
    The Writs of Assistance and Sugar Act were both established in 1764 and written by the British. There is no real date for the two.The Writs of Assistance alllowed search warrants by British officers to prevent smuggling. It wasn't very information heavy and hard to understand what was excatly included. The Sugar Act put a tax on sugar, coffee, indigo, and certain kinds of wine effecting merchants the most.

    Passed by the British Parliament, the Stamp Acts declared that colonist had to pay a tax on every peice of printed paper used in the American Colonies. Though the tax wasnt all that big, colonist were mad this wasn't approved by them. The Stamp Act helped the British get out of debt.

    The Declaratory Act, passed by British Parliment, accompanied the repeal of the Stamp Act. It stated that the taxing in the American Colonies was to be the same as the taxing in Great Britian and the British Parliment was to have all control over the taxing.
  • Townshed Acts

    Townshed Acts
    The Townshed acts were created by Charles Townshed, the king's financial officer. Charles thought of the Townshed act as indirect taxes on items they should alredy be taxed. Parliament passed the Townshed Acts in 1767. This act put taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The colonists resisted the Townshed Act and any taxes to pay to parliament.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The boston Massacre occured in 1770 when British soldiers killed five colonists. The British soldireds were being attacked by an angy-mob of colonists who were against taxes in Boston. The soldiers were tried for murder and found not guilty. Because of this, the colonists believe hat the British will kill to enforce tax laws.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    In response to the Tea Act passed in 1773, the Boston Tea Party occured on December 16, 1773. Members of the Sons of Liberty dumped a shipment of British tea into the Boston Harbor in Massachusetts. King George of Britain stated that, "the colonies were in a state of rebellion." In Response to the colonists behavior, the king sends in more troops to enforce the law.
  • Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)

    Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts)
    The Intolerable Acts were passed by parliament to punnish the Boston colony for the Boston Tea Party in 1774. The Boston Harbor was closed, public meetings were made between the clonists, and illegal and military rule was imposed in the colony until all of the tea dumped, was paid for. Anyone who spoke in favor of parliament, would be coated in tar and feathers, and was also forced to drink hot tea. This was very painful, and humiliating.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the first battle of the American Revolution. The British troopsmleave Boston to look for weapons being hidden by the Sons of Liberty. They also left to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams for supporting the colonists with their wealth. Nearly 4,000 colonists attack the British soldiers on the march from Boston to Concord and then back to Boston.The British lost 273 casualties and the Americans lost 90 casualties.
