Causes of Revolution

  • French Indian War

    French Indian War
    (I used the book to get all my information for each event). Also known as the seven years war, it was between Britian and France. They fought because they both wanted more land to expland thier country. It ended at a peace conference and Britian got more land.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed by parliment in the house of commons. It was an act of the British parliament for rasing revenues in the American colonies by requiring the use of stamps on offical documents, commercial writing and other articles.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Britian taxed certian colonial imports and put troops at major colonial ports to protect custom officers. Colonist protested taxation without representation and orginized a boycott of imported goods.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A mob gathered outside of the boston commons house and taunted the british soldiers. Five colonist ended up dying
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Britain gave the East India Company special concenssions in the colonial tea business and shut out colonial tea merchants. Colonists responded by dumping 18,000 pounds of tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    In 1773, Lord North planned the Tea Act in order to save the British East India Company. The act gave the company the right to sell tea to the colonies free of the taxes that colonial tea sellers had to pay. On December 16th 1773 a group of Boston people disguised themselves as Native Americans and dumped 18,000 pounds of the tea into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    In 1774 in response to the Boston tea party parliament passed a series of rules that the colonists called the Intolerable Acts. One law actually shut down the Boston harbor.
  • 1st and 2nd Continental Congress

    1st and 2nd Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies that met at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia. In May 1775 colonial leaders called the Second Continental Congress to decided their next big decision. They made George Washington the colonial militias commander.

    Publishing of Common Sense
    Thomas Paine published a 50 page pamphlet called Commom Sense. In it he attacked the king and monarchy. He sold over 500,000 copies.
