Causes/Events of the American Revolution

  • French and Indian War

    War forught between France and Britian that lasted until 1763. They fought over land and control of Fur Trade. Britsih ended up winning the war and as a result they got control of the Mississippi River and parts of what today is Canada.
  • Intolerable Acts

    -Quartering Acts (1765) -Boston Port Bill (1774) -Administration of Justice (1774)
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Was made to banned people est of the Appalachian Mountains. Also people who already lived there must move east.
  • Sugar Act

    All sugar and molasses coming into the colonies would be taxed. Pay for British troops used during the french and Indian War
  • Stamp Act

    Printed items required to have a stamp saying tax had been paid.The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Formed by Samuel Adams. Original purpose: to protest to Stamp Act .Protested against taxes. Sometimes used intimidation and physical violence to achieve their goals
  • Declaratory Act

    Great Britain : Parliament - The Declaratory Act; March 18, 1766. An act for the better securing the dependency of his majesty's dominions in America upon the crown and parliament of Great Britain.
  • Townshend Acts

    Taxed more items. Taxation without representation. Colonies had no direct representation in Parliament
  • Boston Massacre

    Argument between soldiers guarding custom house and crowd. Result 5 killed. Includes Crispus Attucks
  • Committees of Correspondence

    In March 1773, the Virginia House of Burgesses proposed that each colonial legislature appoint a standing committee for intercolonial correspondence. Within a year, nearly all had joined the network, and more committees were formed at the town and county levels.
  • Tea Acts

    New Act, lowered price of tea but required colonists to buy it from the East India Company Their resistance culminated in the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773, in which colonists boarded East India Company ships and dumped their loads of tea overboard.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The midnight raid, popularly known as the "Boston Tea Party," was in protest of the British Parliament's Tea Act of 1773,
  • Lexington And Concord battle

    British Troops and the Militia of Massachusetts. olonel Smith, Major Pitcairne and Lord Percy commanded the British Troops. Paul Revere and William Dawes rode to warn the villages on the route to Concord and the Congress. Militia were commanded by Barrett, Buttrick, Robinson and many others.
