    Catherine the great was born on May 2nd 1729 in Settin, Germany. She was the daughter of Prince Christian Augustus of Annalt-Zerbst. Her mother was loving and had a big impact in her life. She also grew up with a governess was Mademoiselle Elizabeth Cardel. When she was cristened at an early age she was given the name Sophia Agustus Frederick.

    IN 1767 catherine summonded an assembly to draft a new code of laws for Russia. the first is to do mutual Good to one another, as much as possibly we can. second is Russia is an European State. Third is the possessions of the Russian Empire is to be extend upon the Globe
    to 32 Degrees of Latitude, and to 165 of Longitude. Fourth is Russia is to have a monarchy. Fifth is any crime comitted is to be punished by the law. all man should be given a trial, no man is guilty until proven other wise.

    In 1767 Catherine the great expanded the borders of Russia. During her reign she extended the Russian empire southwards and westwards. She added territories which included the Crimea, Belarus and Lithuania. Agreements with Prussia and Austria which led to three sections of Poland, extending Russia's borders deep into central Europe.

    During 1768 - 1774 the turks declared battle on Russia While Catherine the Great was in power becuase Russian armies sacked a turkish town. The turks then tried to attack Russia but misrablely failed and Russia overall won the war. The war was settled with a treaty that Russia would eventually break.

    In 1786 she created a plan that would create a bigger educational system. She did added to the number of the country's elementary and secondary schools. She also turned St. Petersburg into one of the world's most dazzling capitals. Theater, music, and painting was encouraged under her rule as well.

    Catherien the great died after ruling 35 years. She died in Saint Petersburg, Russia. There are many rumors that went around about how she really died. Some involed being crushed by a horse. But in reality she died of a stroke.
