John Brown attacked Harpers Ferry for ammunition and guns. John had antislavery views, and wanted to change the slavery laws. He was later hung for his actions.

Lincoln was a republican and opposed slavery. Lincoln won the election by getting all of the north's votes which accounted for 40% of all votes.

South Carolina was one of the first states to scede. Since Lincoln was the new president they felt that the southern states wouldnt have any political power. After South Carolina sceded it persuaded other southern states to do the same
