The Underground Railroad was a system of routes thats slaves used to escaped. On these routes there were houses for the slaves to hide in. The routes lead to canada and other safe areas. -

Debates between Lincoln and Douglas
Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas both believed that slavery was wrong, but they argued over popular soereignty. Douglas was for popular soereignty, and opposed slavery. -
Attack at Harpers Ferry
John Brown attacked Harpers Ferry for ammunition and guns. John had antislavery views, and wanted to change the slavery laws. He was later hung for his actions. -
Election 1860
Lincoln was a republican and opposed slavery. Lincoln won the election by getting all of the north's votes which accounted for 40% of all votes. -
Sucession
South Carolina was one of the first states to scede. Since Lincoln was the new president they felt that the southern states wouldnt have any political power. After South Carolina sceded it persuaded other southern states to do the same
