  • Peacekeeping

    The United Nations Charter was drafted at the end of World War 2. It's main goal was to prevent conflict against securities of different countries (army's). Canada first had its role in the UN in the 1950's when the Canadian Ambassador (Lester Peterson) implied that it will help maintain equilibrium between countries. Since the 1950's, Canada has sent over 120,000 troops as part of UN peacekeeping missions.
  • UN Security Council

    The Security Council is the United Nations' primary responsibility is the maintenance of international peace and security. Five powerful countries sit as "permanent members" along with ten elected members with two-year terms. Since 1990, the Council has dramatically increased its activity and it now meets in nearly continuous session. It dispatches military operations, imposes sanctions, mandates arms inspections, deploys election monitors and more.(The UN Security Council) Alora Riddle
  • Suez crisis

    A invasion by israel with the assistance of france and the united kingdom attacking egypt. The invasion was to regain control of the suez canal which was a large artificial waterway that connected to the mediterranean sea and to take the egyptian president out of power which in that time would have been Gamal Abdel Nasser. They eventually all withdrew the attack due to the political pressure. After the retreat it humiliated great britain and france and only led to giving their enemy more power.
  • Suez Crisis

    Israeli paratroopers, led by a zealous officer called Ariel Sharon, were dropped into Sinai to fulfill their side of the bargain. Feigning surprise, the British and French issued an ultimatum to both sides to cease fire. When the Egyptians rejected this, British planes started bombing the Egyptian air force on the ground and on November 5th Anglo-French troops went ashore to begin the invasion of the canal zone.
  • Lester B. Pearson

    Won a noble peace prize, for his contribution to peacekeeping efforts. He helped with Suez Crisis by sending an emergency neutral United Nations peacekeeping force.
  • NORAD

    The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a United States and Canada bi-national organization which is a network for aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America. Aerospace warning includes the detection, validation, and warning of attack against North America, this could include aircraft, missiles, or space vehicles, through mutual support arrangements with other commands.   • Bosnia

    Bosnia suffered a mass genocide after WW2. The attack included over 8,000 people murdered. The conflict sparked when the Serbian Forces ¨ethnically cleansed¨ Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims) and Croats. The conditions the victims were very brutal and Serbian forces tried to replicate the concentration camps of the Nazi´s.
