Communism was founded by Mao Zedong. It began as a movement that paved the way for the liberation of the poor. -
THE KOREAN WAR
The Korean War was a war between Communist North and Democratic South Korea. The United Nations with Canada helped in this peace making mission. -
THE WARSAW PACT
The WARSAW Pact is a military alliance of Communist countries. When Communism was destroyed, the WARSAW pact ceased to exist. -
SUEZ CRISIS
The Suez Canal is an important trading route between the East and the West. When Egypt claimed the Seuz Canal as its own and blocked it from being used by other countries Britain and France responded violently. Lester Pearson, a Canadian, made way for the Suez Crises to be solved. -
BERLIN WALL IS BUILT
To prevent the Eastern Germans to escape to Western Germany,the USSR built the Berlin Wall. Winston Churchill's speech of the iron curtain refers to the Berlin Wall. -
CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS
USSR found an ally in Communist Cuba and they had nuclear missile factories built in Cuba which they can aim at the United States. The only time in the Cold War that the war got hot. -
VIETNAM WAR
The vietnam war was a battle between the United States and the communist country of Vietnam. The United States got involved in this because they fear the occurnace of the Domino Theory. -
USSR INVADES AFGHANISTAN
The Soviet Union intervened in support of the Afghan communist government in its conflict with anticommunist Muslim guerrillas during the Afghan Civil War. -
BERLIN WALL IS TORN DOWN
The symbol of the end of the Cold War was when the Berlin Wall was torn down. Mikhail Gorbachev, then USSR leader, stopped communism in Russia because of Russia's economic troubles and how communism wasn't helping things.
