Elio and Oliver have a complicated friendship. Their dispute continues. They have been distant for a while, but now Elio has had enough and says he needs to speak to Oliver.

Elio is mad at Oliver and believes he is a traitor. Tension is created between them.

Elio has gotten his eyes set on Marzia, "the perfect girl next door". As an attempt to "get back at" Oliver, they get together.

Elio and Oliver finally "find" each other. They are upset that they "lost" so many weeks only being friends.

Oliver´s stay is coming to an end. Oliver has to go to Rome before heading back to the states. Mrs. and Mr. Perlman suggests that Elio goes with him.

Elio and Oliver arrive in Rome, and get to experience what they have been talking about for a while, freedom.

Elio and Oliver end up at a party with authors and musicians. Together they experience utter happiness and freedom.

Oliver has left for the USA. Elio arrives home. Feeling happy and extremely sad at the same time. He has lost the love of his life.

Elio and his father have an important conversation about Elio and Oliver´s relationship and how it was a really good relationship. Mr. Perlman tells him that "our hearts and our bodies are given to us only once" so Elio has to live his life to the fullest.
