    The Southern and Northern states had a massive amount of tension growing between them over the growth of slavery. Henry Clay was known as a great compromise(er) would settle the debate between the North and South , He said that Maine would become as a free sate while Arkansas would be a slave state. Overall the Missouri is many laws that would help settle the balance between the free states and free states.
  • The Nullification Crisis

    The Nullification Crisis
    The passing of the tariffs laws of 1828 and 1832 made Southern states feel like the tariffs were unfair and were only supporting the north. Later on Vice President John C. Calhoun stated that any state is able to nullify and federal law they they consider unconstitutional. South Carolina's argument was denied as a result they threatened to secede. Then Henry Clay made a compromise to keep south Carolina and would lower the tariffs.

    The Compromise of 1850 was a congress debate over the new territories they had won from Mexico; whether they would become slave states or free states. Henry Clay would help make a compromise for the North and South. The territory (California) would be free and that congress would not ban slavery from the remaining land.

    The entering of Kansas to the Union was a decision of the election of an official state legislature. From nearby states such Missouri came together and voted for pro slavery representatives in Kansas illegally. The out come of the nearby states voting as they did Kansas had a pro slavery legislature. The anti-slavery people had begun their own government, and later the the antislavery government would be attacked by the pro slavery people.

    Dred Scott was a slaved man who sued for his freedom because he was on free land at the time. The court decided that because he was property he would not be taken from (set free) from his owner.

    A man named John Brown wanted to give slaves a sense of allowing them to start thinking of being able to fight for freedom. John Brown would soon plan to capture the arsenal in Harpers Ferry's army base; and he would use the supplies to arm the slaves.No slaves would follow in Browns fight; they captured John Brown and the men who participated ; many of the men would be killed. John Brown was caught and put to death.
