    The Declaration of Independence
    July Fourth of 1776 was the date when Congress officially approved the Declaration of Independece. This document declared that America would break free from its rule from Britain. This is undoubtedly the most important event in American history because it gave us our freedom from Britain.
  • The Signing of The Constitution

    The Signing of The Constitution
    On this date the U.S Constitution was signed and ratified. This document is still our current form of government. This is very important to America because this fixed the Articles of Confederation and founded the successful governemnt we have today.
  • Invention of the Cotton Gin

    Invention of the Cotton Gin
    On this date in 1793, Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin. Short for Cotton Engine, this machine used two sets of metal teeth to seperate cotton fibers from the seeds. This called for a huge increase in slaves to pick more and more cotton to feed the growing textile mills in the north. This was important because it did the work of 100 men and helped America grow.

    The Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were hired by the government to go on an expedition to the Pacific Coast. During their journey, their main objective was to find a all-water route to the Pacific Ocean, which they did not find. However, they found tons of new plants, animals, and Native American Tribes. This is important because they discovered tons of plants and animal species and it allowed Americans to move further west.

    Homestead Act
    President Abraham Lincoln signed this act on May 20 of 1862. The act declared that anyone 21 years of age or older could claim 160 free acres in western territory, The price came at which the owner had to settle there and farm the land for five years. This impacted American history because it expanded America westward and primed the land for the coming years.

    The Fall of Richmond
    On May of 1861, the Confederate Capital relocated to Richmond, Virginia. At that time, Richmond became the very target for the Union. After the North regained their momentum in key battles like Gettysburg, the Union army struggled to enter Richmond for 10 months. After General Lee urged an attack, the Union destoryed every line and entered the city as the Confederates fled. This date was very important for the U.S because it evidently preserved the Union and secured a victory for the North.

    Lincoln's Assassination
    On this date, Lincoln took this day to relax and watch a play at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. John Wilkes Booth, a southerner, stepped into the box and shot Lincoln in the back of the head. Booth was killed days later. This is important becuase Lincoln showed the rebels mercy and the south lost a friend.

    Wounded Knee Massacre
    On this date, United States 7th Cavalry opened fire on a peaceful Sioux tribe at Wounded Knee Creedk. The soldiers thought that the tribe was preparing for a war, while they were just simply having a ceremony. This was important in history because many people realized how much we needed the natives and it shaped our relations with them for years to come.

    This event sparked the infamous Great Depression. On this day, Wall St. and all of America was in panic due to the crash of the stock market. This is imnportant to American history because it evidently shaped our economy today.

    The Great Depression was sparked from the Stock Market Crash of 1929. The economy weakened, and Wall Street was shot into chaos. World War II didn't help, either. From all the revenue need to supply food to troops, weapons, and other necessities, the economy finally bounced back nearing the end of the last World War.

    Atomic Bombing on Hiroshima, Japan
    On this date, the world's first atomic bomb was dropped from a American B-29 bomber plane onto Hiroshima, Japan. President Truman ordered "Little Boy" to be dropped during WWII.

    On February 17, 2001, at 2:00PM I was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Born into a family of three, being the fourth child, I was the youngest. This event was obvisouly important, because without it, I would not be here today! Some things I like to do are football, ride bike, and hang out with friends.

    On this infamous day in 2001, three planes were hijacked by the terrorist group al-Qaeda. Two hit the World Trade Center in NYC, and the other was overtaken by passengers are crashed intoa field in Pa. This event shhocked the nation and ultimately drew America closer together.
