    The Curtis Brothers
    The Curtis brothers worked on the same idea of making and selling gum. They used a Franklin stove and pure spruce tree resin to produce their gum. They were the first people in history to sell gum. They sold two hunks of gum for one penny. Made and sold the first chwing gum called the State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum.

    The Curtis brothers left thier hometown in Maine to work on thier gum recipe. They added paraffin and flavoring to their already popular recipe. Thier first major gum manufacturing building was called the Curtis Chewing Gum Factory. The Curtis brothers idea of using paraffin for thier gum became more popular and took the place of gum made from spruce.

    Thomas Adams who lived in New York tried his hand at the gum making business, he boiled down chicle in his home and sold small chunks of it to local drug stores.

    Thomas Adams had so many orders to full he created the popular gum machine in order to keep up with business. Adams patented another first of its kind, Flavoed gum adding licorice flavoing to his recipe and naming it Black Jack, it was not sold in chunks but rather in stick form which was very appealing to the public

    Jphn Calgon invnted a way to make chewing gum last longer and taste beter for a longer peiod of time.

    Fleer Brothers
    Brothers, Henry and Frank Fleer experimented with Chicle, a sticky substance from the sapodilla tree. They made cubes of chicle and overlayed them with sweet material. Henry Fleer covered the Chicle with a sugary coating. He called them "Chiclets". On the meantime his brother Frank assembled a recipe for the worlds first bubble gum. the Fleers gum was never marketed and therefore never took off.

    Thomas Adams created the flavored chewing gum Tutti-Frutti. This was the first chewing gum that was sold from a vending machine. The first chewing gum machine was located in one of the subway stations in New York.

    Wrigley and Fleer put their skills together and created Doublemint flavoed chewing gum. They created this unique flavor by adding mint and fruit extracts to a chewing gum with chicle

    Walter Diemer invented the pink colored bubble gum he called Dubble Bubble. he created this gum by using Frank Fleers recipe for his Blibber-Blubber bubble gum. Diemer perfected Fleers recipe making it enjoyable for the public.

    In the 1950's sugarless gum was intoduced. The idea of sugarless gum came from a dentist, Dr. Petrulis.
