    The said that only British ships could do trade. No one really did anything it just messed things up.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Updated version of the Molasses Act that actually allowed them to collect taxes. It actually lowered the previous tariff, but this tax was actually enforced. The previous one had not been. The Colonists didn't like it, but they did do any thing about it, they just held on to it and eventually in response to the Stamp Act let it out.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    First direct tax on American colonies. The act placed a tax on all printed things. The act placed a tax on legal documents, newspapers, books, licenses, and almost all paper things. It was meant to help compensate for the French-Indian war. The colonists did not like this act. The Stamp Act was repealed in 1766. Because the colonist pointed out that the British parliament could legally tax the colonies. After that they made a law that they could tax.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Imposed taxes on 72 items. Led to Boston massacre. And the formation of Boston Town Meeting. It was partially repealed because of the reasons the Boston Town Meeting came up with.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Updated version of Townsend Act. Left only a tax on tea. The final straw for many American colonists, resulted in the Boston Tea party. The British after this put no new taxes upon the British, they only increased British soldiers in the area.
