Galileo Galiliei dies. He is known as the father of modern science. Galileo risked his life to support and expand on the findings of Nicholas Copernicus. He is also known as the father of physics and is an important figure in the understanding of astronomy. -

What's smaller than an atom?
A quark of course Murray Gell-Mann wins the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1969 for discovering quarks. Quarks are the building blocks of atoms. Gell-Mann is now 82 and holds at least three jobs! He is a physics professor at the University of New Mexico, Cal Tech, and the University of Southern California.
