Boston growing

Increasing taxes
Crown increased taxes on the colonies throughout the 1730's. -

Payed taxes on every piece of paper they used. Money collected was helped to pay costs of defending and protecting the American Frontier. -
Townshend Act
Placed taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. -
Boston Massacre
The soldiers fired first and three men were killed instantly. -
Tea Act
Government passed Tea Act to increase sales of the East India tea company. If there was no tax on tea, then colonists would want to buy it. -
Boston Tea Party
As much as 7, 000 people filled the docks where ships were docked filled with tea. -
Paul Revere's Ride
British troops came to Lexington and Concord to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock. Paul Revere and Williams Dawes warned the colonists about the troops arriving. -

In the 1840"s the first non- English immagrants came from Ireland. Nearly two milion in that decade. -

This was throughout the late 19th century. Boston became a manufacturer of a variety of goods and products for the civil war. -
Boston's Downfall
Mills became obsolete. Businesses closed and reopened in the south. This took place during the Great Depression. When the war started again, people started to work again. -
Boston Computers
fishing and farming declined. Boston was starting with computer and high- tech industries. This was throughout the 1950's. -
Freedom Tunnel and Bunker Hill Bridge
In March of 2003, the Freedom Tunnel and Bunker Hill Bridge were finished and opened.
